The ANID-Chile Cambridge Scholarship is a great opportunity opener for Chilean students. ANID, known in full as ‘Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo’, is the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research in Chile. It was founded in 1967 and formerly known as CONICYT. As at the time of establishment, its main role was to advise the President of Chile on scientific matters. Now, ANID’s work has further grown to include provision of scholarships in all subjects, funding research and development projects, and systematising scientific information. It currently focuses its efforts on the training of advanced human capital, on developing and strengthening Chile’s scientific and technological base, addressing regional development, and promoting international liaisons.
Record has it that over the years ANID has provided a very large range of scholarships to Chilean students in different discipline for study abroad, under the BECAS Chile programme. In fact, it has worked with the Cambridge Trust to offer the CONICYT-Chile Cambridge Scholarship (now the ANID-Chile Cambridge Scholarship), available to PhD applicants since 2013.
